A Building Project and a Dream

Diakonhjemmet Garden is both an ambitious development project and a dream. Health and care services, education and research are being developed for the future. Diakonhjemmet Foundation is the developer, but the dream will be realized together with many others.

Creating Services for the Future

Diakonhjemmet Foundation has planned with one goal in mind for more than 12 years — to create the services of tomorrow along with our existing services and new partners.

We are building around 100,000 square meters of new facilities on one-third of our property, including:

  • A new upper secondary school for 810 students with a focus on health and child development
  • A multi-purpose sports hall open to local sports clubs
  • A modern elder care residence with 138 long-term units
  • An expanded campus for VID Specialized University and Diakonova Vocational School
  • Approx. 100 new student housing units
  • A new Diakonhjemmet metro station, universally designed and replacing today’s Steinerud and Frøen stations

We will create Norway’s largest campus for internships and apprenticeships and be an arena to test new processes, technologies and ways of working together.

Synergy Among our Services

Diakonhjemmet Hospital, VID Specialized University, Diakonova Vocational School, Diakonveien Care+, two kindergartens and rental housing already exist on our property. Each service brings unique offerings to Diakonhjemmet Garden. Yet, they share common goals: more collaboration, stronger research and professional development — all to create better services for people.

And this is the very essence of it all. The buildings are just the framework. The true dream lies in what happens inside the buildings.

Added Value for our Services

For the hospital and elder care residence, Diakonhjemmet Garden means stronger recruitment through practical learning opportunities and an expanded campus and research environments.

For our educational institutions, it means closer connections to professional life and learning that offers students practical and real-world experience. This makes the programs more attractive to students and better prepares them for a wide range of career opportunities after graduation.

Opportunities are Created Now

Opportunities are being created now and it is up to us to maximize them. Diakonhjemmet Garden has all the necessities to make a strong contribution to health and care services, education and research in our society, especially in Oslo.

The ripple effects go even further: a larger campus, expanded and improved services, and stronger connections to the rest of the city through public transport opportunities. This will make the health and care environment at Diakonhjemmet Garden not only a professional hub, but also an attractive place to study, live and thrive — open, green and connected to the city.

Giving People a Better Life

Today, about 5,000 people visit our location every day. With the developments in Diakonhjemmet Garden, that number will grow. Diakonhjemmet Garden will be a unique arena in the city where everything revolves around giving people a better life, throughout life.

That is diakonia in its most basic form, but above all, it is our way of contributing to society and its development.

Diakonhjemmet Garden is truly building for the future.
